The PRIMERA research programme at the Centre for Mental Health and Communtity Research, funded by the HSE, aims to help develop services to support the whole family when a parent has mental health issues.

It has been estimated that up to one in five children and young people live in such families. Christine Mulligan is a PhD student working with the PRIMERA research programme. In the Irish Times article below, Christine reflects on her experiences of growing up in a family where there were mental health difficulties. The other PRIMERA team members, Prof. Sinead McGilloway and Dr. Mairead Furlong, also discuss the programme within the article.
