We are delighted to welcome Bernadette Phillips and Jack Horgan to the CMHCR, both of whom are the recipients of postgraduate scholarships. Warmest congratulations to both!

Bernadette was recently awarded a prestigious Irish Research Council PhD Scholarship (having attained an overall score of 97% in her application). Bernadette’s PhD research will explore the historical claims that early Montessori schools were ‘healing’ environments for children affected by trauma. It also aims to blend historical and contemporary research to inform effective, MontessorI-attuned, trauma-informed, educational practice. Bernadette will be working under the joint supervision of Dr Catriona O’Toole, MU Department of Education and Professor Sinead McGilloway, Centre Director, Department of Psychology.

Jack Horgan has received a Maynooth University rugby scholarship to enable him to pursue a Masters by research in the CMCHR. Jack joins the SALaM Ireland team (www.cmhcr.eu/salam) and he will be helping to investigate the psychosocial wellbeing and needs of young Arabic-speaking migrants from conflict-affected countries. Jack will be working under the co-supervision of Professor Sinead McGilloway and Maria Gialama.
